The Pre-Primary and Primary Education Department:
(i) Coordinates the activity of reviewing and revising of inclusive curricula and syllabi for Pre-Primary and Primary Education levels;
(ii) Coordinates the task of designing and developing curricula support materials for Pre-primary and Primary Schools;
(iii) Coordinates the provision of in-service training programmes, conferences, workshops, and seminars on uses of curricula and curriculum support materials to Pre and Primary;
(iv) Carries out research in the field of education at Pre and Primary Education levels.
(v) Coordinates the role of conducting monitoring and evaluation of curriculum implementation at Pre–Primary and Primary education levels;
(vi) Specifies standards of equipment, instruments and other types of educational devices used in Pre–primary and Primary school levels;
(vii) Advises and assists the Deputy Director General on educational matters related to achievement and maintenance of quality education at pre – primary and primary levels;
(viii) Prepares directorate annual budget and reports;
(ix) Supervises curriculum developers for effective functioning of the directorate.
(x) Undertakes consultancy services belonging to Pre- and Primary Education levels;
(xi) Recommends in-service training programmes to staff in the department.
