Curriculum Development and Review (CDR)

Introduction

When TIE changed its organizational structure in 2009 the then Curriculum Design and Development Department (CDDD) was renamed Curriculum Development and Review Department (CDRD). The current structure is basically similar to the previous one except that it is headed by a Director who is responsible to the Director General of TIE.

 Structure

The CDR is organised into five sections namely:

  1. Early Childhood Development (ECD) section.
  2. Primary Education (PE) section.
  3. Secondary Education (SE) section.
  4. Teacher Education (TE) section.
  5. Special Needs ( SN)and Non- Formal Education (NF) section.

Functions of the CDR

  • Interpreting educational policies into practicable curriculum aims goals and objectives.
  • Initiating , revising and developing educational programmes for all levels of education under its mandate by working hand in hand with EMDD.
  • Pre-testing of all the syllabi and educational materials.
  • Designing and developing educational materials for all subjects at all levels within TIE’s jurisdiction.
  • Conducting research and evaluation of educational programmes and projects in collaboration with DRIP.
  • Providing consultancy services on various educational issues.
  • Supporting and participating in subject panels.
  • Exploring opportunities for collaboration and linkages with local and international organization involved in the curriculum arena.

Functions of sections

The core functions of the sections are derived from the main functions of the Department. To ensure efficiency and effectiveness inexecuting these roles each section is also charged with the following roles:

  • Preparing annual work plans specifying activities and budgets for the section.
  • Collaborating with other department at TIE in the implementation planned activities.
  • Collaborating with other partners in executing sections roles.
  • Preparing activity implementation reports.

Modus Operandi

In executing its activities the Department observes the main operating principles of TIE is transparency, accountability, diligence,integrity, professionalism and team spirit. Internal and external collaboration is utilized intensively and extensively as the Department works closely with other expertsfrom another TIE Departments and from outside especially MoEVT, Universities, the NECTA, NGO’s, and schools.  Subjects experts plan and coordinate activities in their area of specialization and report to their section Heads who then report to the Director like other departmental Directors reports to Director General.
